Cyclones – Efficient separation before final filtration
Cyclone separators remove larger dust particles from the air stream using centrifugal force, without filter media. They are a robust solution for pre-separation, pneumatic conveying and processes with high material loads.
What are cyclone separators and when should you use them?
Cyclone separators use centrifugal force to separate solid particles from an air stream. Contaminated air enters the cyclone tangentially, creating a rotating flow that drives heavier particles toward the outer wall and down into the discharge section.
They are commonly used as primary separators ahead of a bag or cartridge filter, or as part of pneumatic conveying systems where larger quantities of dry material need to be removed before final filtration. Tehno Filter’s CTF UNI and CTF VIS ranges are intended for dry, free-flowing dust and can operate as primary separators or pre-separation stages.
Why use a cyclone?
By removing a significant portion of larger particles before they reach the main filter, a cyclone can reduce the material load on downstream filtration equipment. Its simple mechanical principle also means there are no filter bags or cartridges inside the cyclone itself, making it particularly suitable for applications with continuous dust and material flow.
