Spark Aresters – Stop sparks before they reach the filter
Spark arresters are installed upstream of filtration equipment to separate hot particles and coarse spark-carrying material from the air stream before they can enter the filter. They are especially important in welding, cutting and grinding applications where hot particles can create a serious fire risk inside downstream filtration equipment.
What are spark arresters and when should you use them?
Spark arresters are passive separation devices designed to remove sparks, hot particles and coarse material from an extraction air stream before the air reaches a filter. They are typically installed in the duct between the production process and the filtration unit. As contaminated air passes through the spark arrester, the internal flow path reduces the energy of hot particles and separates heavier material before it can continue toward the filter. Tehno Filter specifically recommends spark arresters for metalworking processes such as cutting, welding and grinding, where a high volume of sparks may be generated.
Why use a spark arrester?
Filters often contain combustible dust deposits or filter media that can be damaged by hot particles. A spark arrester adds a protective stage ahead of the filter, reducing the chance that ignition-capable particles reach the filtration chamber. It should be treated as part of the overall fire and explosion protection concept, not as a replacement for other required protective measures.
