28,000 m³/h ATEX exhaust and adsorption system
A complete two-stage extraction and air treatment system developed for a recycling facility, combining high-capacity particulate filtration with activated carbon adsorption for VOCs, odours and gaseous contaminants.
Challenge
Recycling processes can generate a complex mixture of airborne dust, volatile organic compounds, odours and gaseous contaminants. The system therefore needed to control both particulate and gas-phase emissions while operating reliably in an environment with potential ATEX hazards.
In addition to high extraction capacity, the installation had to withstand abrasive particulate, maintain stable airflow throughout the process and provide safe handling of potentially hazardous dust and gases.
Solution
Tehno Filter developed a complete extraction and air treatment system with a design capacity of 28,000 m³/h. Process emissions are captured through custom-designed extraction hoods and transported through a heavy-duty welded ducting network manufactured from 2.0 mm steel. The air then passes through a two-stage treatment process. In the first stage, a PMV PZ 120 industrial filter removes coarse and fine particulate before the air reaches the gas-phase treatment section.
In the second stage, the filtered air enters an adsorption vessel containing 20 tonnes of granular activated carbon, designed to capture VOCs, odorous compounds and other gaseous contaminants. The complete installation was designed with ATEX requirements in mind, including equipotential bonding and grounding, conductive filter media, anti-static carbon loading and certified explosion isolation components.
Result
The completed system combines dust extraction, particulate filtration and gas-phase adsorption in one integrated installation. With a capacity of 28,000 m³/h and a 20,000 kg activated carbon bed, the system provides controlled treatment of both solid and gaseous contaminants while supporting safe and reliable operation in a demanding recycling environment.
High-capacity treatment in two stages
Effective air treatment starts by understanding what is in the air. In this system, particulate filtration and gas-phase adsorption work together as one process.
